In the early nineties, Forsyth County became acutely aware of the consequences of premarital sex. Healthcare professionals were seeing more than 25 distinct Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), and the number of teen pregnancies in Forsyth County was one of the highest in the state of North Carolina.

Convinced that saving sex until marriage is the only infallible way to prevent STDs and pregnancy, the Worth the Wait organization is committed to sharing that truth with others. Worth the Wait is a two-part series. The first part is a medical presentation seen by eighth graders in the public school system. A medical professional shares with them the prevalence and danger of STDs. These professionals send a message of responsibility by speaking of saving sex, not safe sex.

The second part of the series is a presentation which utilizes drama, humor, illustrations, examples, and statistics to talk about the physical and emotional consequences of having sex, oral sex, or other sexual activities before marriage. High school students who are themselves committed to abstinence are the actors and examples of the possibility of staying pure. The eighth grade students are asked to commit themselves to abstinence until marriage and students may also commit to renewed virginity.

Worth the Wait...because the best sex is married sex.
